A Linux distribution is a collection of software applications built on top of the Linux kernel and operating system. There are many variations between distributions, as each strives to provide a unique user experience. Any widely used UNIX distribution may be utilized for this experiment. Ubuntu is the most widely used desktop Linux distro and was used for this experiment.
Installing Ubuntu from Bootable USB edit
Creation edit
Ubuntu can be installed on a computer using a bootable USB flash drive. The Ubuntu website explains how to create a bootable USB drive here
Install edit
The USB installer is used from PenDriveLinux.
After Ubuntu is downloaded and installed on the USB flash drive:
- Reboot the computer and press F12 to access the boot menu.
- From the menu, select boot from USB device. The Ubuntu installer will appear.
- Follow the on screen instructions to install Ubuntu on the computer.
- Once installed, remove USB and install Ubuntu on the second computer from the USB.
