Variable Definitions[edit | edit source]

l length of pendulum
g gravity
T period of the pendulum
δT uncertainty in the period
δg uncertainty in the gravity
δl uncertainty in the length

Uncertainty in the Measurement of g[edit | edit source]

The theory section shows that g is found to be:

g=4π2lT2

From this, the error can be found by:

(δgg)2=(δll)2+(2δTT)2

This formulation is then used for calculations of the uncertainty and the accuracy necessary for keeping the error withing 1/10000. The error on the period is found from:

δT=σN

where:

σ=1N1i=1N(TiT¯)2
