==== Step 6: Compile Kernel Modules ==== Before we can compile the Guest Additions kernel modules, we have to update a lot of packages, and install a few additional ones as well. Perform the following commands from within a terminal window (note that sudo will ask for your account password the first time): <syntaxhighlight lang="bash"> sudo yum -y update sudo yum -y install git make gcc-c++ gcc binutils libX11-devel libXpm-devel libXft-devel libXext-devel </syntaxhighlight> Now, power off the virtual machine, and reboot it. This will implement the new kernel that was just installed with the yum update command. We need to install two more packages before compiling the modules: <syntaxhighlight lang="bash"> sudo yum -y install kernel-headers kernel-devel </syntaxhighlight>
